Getting here
In the middle of the village, surrounded by a magnificent backdrop
Chalet-Hotel Adler sits five minutes on foot from Kandersteg station — easily reached by train, by car or on foot.
Aeussere Dorfstrasse 19, 3718 Kandersteg, Schweiz · Phone +41 33 675 80 10 (available 09:00–17:00 Uhr)
By train
From Bern, take the Lötschberger towards Brig. The journey takes around an hour and the train runs hourly. Coming from Valais, take the same Lötschberger towards Bern; from Goppenstein it is only about ten minutes through the summit tunnel.
Once in Kandersteg you can see our hotel from the station forecourt — five minutes up the village street, flat the whole way and easy with a wheeled suitcase.
For current connections from Basel, Zurich Airport or Geneva Airport, sbb.ch is the most reliable source. Every route joins the same Lötschberger at Bern or Spiez.
If you are carrying a lot of luggage or find walking difficult, we are happy to collect you from the station on request, subject to availability. Please let us know in advance.
By car
Take the motorway towards Bern, then follow the signs for Kandersteg. The hotel sits right in the village centre, opposite the Volg shop.
Parking is available directly beside the hotel at CHF 10 per 24 hours for hotel guests. Spaces cannot be reserved, but you will almost always find one. For electric cars we provide two charging points.
By car shuttle train to Valais
Kandersteg is the northern terminus of the car shuttle through the Lötschberg. You drive your car onto the train, stay in your seat and arrive in Goppenstein in Valais around fifteen minutes later — no pass, no snow chains, all year round.
Depending on the season and the day of the week, the shuttle runs every 20 to 40 minutes. A single crossing for a passenger car costs roughly CHF 25 to 30 depending on the time.
For many of our guests this is the real reason to break their journey here: a night at the Adler on the way to Zermatt, Saas-Fee or elsewhere in Valais — and over the mountain in a quarter of an hour the next morning.
On foot
Kandersteg can also be reached on various hiking trails and passes — from the Kiental over the Hohtürli, for instance, or from Leukerbad over the Gemmi Pass. Two day stages through some of the finest mountain scenery in Switzerland.
If you are breaking a multi-day tour with us, tell us roughly when you expect to arrive. We will make sure there is something warm waiting, even after a long day.
