Your most loyal companion stays with us free of charge

Your dog stays with us free of charge — no surcharge, no visitor’s tax, no extra form. There is no restriction by size, breed or number: the Bernese mountain dog is as welcome as the dachshund, and if there are two of them, then there are two.

Where your dog may join you

Your dog is welcome in the room, in the restaurant and in the breakfast room. You need not leave them behind for dinner or for morning coffee.

The one exception is the spa area. The pool, sauna and steam room stay dog-free, so we ask you to leave your companion in the room. That is expressly allowed: your dog may stay alone in the room, provided they are used to it and stay quiet.

We do not provide bowls, blankets or baskets — please bring those from home. In our experience every dog sleeps best on its own blanket anyway.

Walks straight from the hotel door

Kandersteg is an unusually rewarding place for dogs. Everything is possible from our front door — from a quarter of an hour around the village to a ten-hour tour across a mountain pass. We deliberately name no fixed routes here, because the right one depends on the weather, the season and your dog’s fitness.

Just ask at reception. We know the paths, we know where the herds graze in summer and where the cross-country trails run in winter, and together we will find the right route for the day.

One tip for winter: Kandersteg maintains a dedicated dog trail of around six kilometres. There you may ski cross-country with your dog running alongside you — on the other trails this is not permitted.

You may also take your dog on the cable car up to Lake Oeschinen. That makes the UNESCO-protected mountain lake one of the easiest and most beautiful half-day trips you can make from here.

Should something happen

The nearest veterinary practice is in Frutigen, around fifteen minutes down the valley by car. You can get the address and current emergency numbers from our reception at any time.
